The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA-UB) received visitors from the Yogyakarta National Education Department on Monday (27/8) yesterday. This visit was received directly by the Dean, Drs. Adi Susilo, M.Sc., Ph.D. The National Education Ministry’s was in the context of friendship and mentoring of grade 4 and 5 elementary school students in Yogyakarta who wanted to visit the Biology Department of FMIPA in preparation for the upcoming Science Olympiad.
“We have selected 600 elementary school students who are interested in the Science field to be the 40 chosen students to be sent to the upcoming Science Olympics,” said Angga Rahmat Ardiono, Yogyakarta National Education Department staff. According to Angga, the upcoming visit to Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will be more interesting and increase more knowledge because he believes the quality and quality of FMIPA UB. Often he is disappointed when visiting several places in Yogyakarta because of irrelevant places and props that are rarely used.
Therefore, they would like to choose FMIPA UB to get the best student potential to Science Olympiad. The purpose is to introduce elementary school students on the campus of Brawijaya University, especially the Biology Laboratory at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. There will be a practicum and training on that program. In addition, the Yogyakarta National Education Office will also held mentoring for teachers. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences strongly supports the plan by offering collaboration / MOU for the provision of material related to the Science Olympiad in the future. This was expressed by Zulfaidah Penatagama, M.Sc. Ph.D as the Secretary of Biology at FMIPA UB, “The MOU will be made as soon as possible so we can prepare the schedule and material”.
Vice Dean II for General Affairs and Finance, Sukir Maryanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that the visitation can be hold during holidays between February or July 2019. Considering the high number of visits to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the current policy of admission of visits is applied [yogie].
